game explanation
overview
The game is divided into three sections: the autonomous period, the driver control period, and the end game. During the autonomous period, robots must complete tasks running only on pre-programmed code. During the driver control period, two drivers manually control the robot with game joysticks to score the most rings they can. Lastly, during the end game, drivers have the choice to complete bonus objectives for major points, or continue to keep on scoring rings.
autonomous period
The autonomous period lasts for exactly 30 seconds. If a ring is placed on the bottom row, that team gets five points. If a ring is placed on the middle row, that team gets 10 points. If a ring is placed on the top row, that team gets 15 points. If a ring is placed on the same randomly designed column as a IR beacon, that team will get a 50 point bonus. Also, whichever peg the autonomous ring is placed on, that team will get “ownership” of that peg for the entire game, which comes into play during the driver control period.
driver control period
The driver control period lasts exactly two minutes, with 30 seconds overlapping at the end, with drivers being able to choose to keep on scoring rings as in the driver control or completing end game objectives. During the driver control period, for each ring on the center floor goal, that team earns one point. For every ring on the bottom row, the team gets five points. A team gets 10 points if they place a ring on the middle row, and they get 15 points for putting a ring on the top row. For each line of three rings completed, the team gets 30 points. If a weighted ring is placed in the corner goal, the team gets a 20 percent ring score bonus.
end game
In the end game, if one robot lifts its alliance’s robot at least two inches, they get 30 points. The team gets another five points for every extra inch that the robot is lifted off of the ground until a maximum of 24 inches.
